Headline: The Golden Compass is a go

New Line Cinema have given the official go ahead to make The Golden Compass, the first book in Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials series. Production on the $150 million-budgeted film is scheduled to begin September 4 in the UK, with Oscar-nominated writer/director Chris Weitz (About a Boy, Antz) at the helm. After an extensive search Dakota Blue Richards has been cast as the young Lyra Belacqua. Nicole Kidman is rumoured for the part of villain Mrs. Coulter.
