Beavis And Butt-Head: The Mike Judge Collection-Volume 3 DVD Review:
As new and original ways to use gross-out humor emerge, it is easy to forget the things that used to make us laugh. Older movies and television shows will seem tame, because as each new form of entertainment is created, the gross-out humor becomes more extreme in order to get audience’s attention. Before Beavis and Butt-Head was The Simpsons, which was controversial at one time. After Beavis and Butt-Head came South Park which was then replaced by Family Guy as the most talked about and offensive show. As each show is replaced, we forget how offensive the entertainment before it was, but with his third collection, Mike Judge seems to be reminding us that he was offensive first.
Collection three is filled with some of the most violent of Beavis and Butt-Head episodes. The third collection is filled with episodes like Woodshop, where Beavis cuts his finger off and nearly bleed to death, or the equally disgusting Nosebleed, where Beavis again almost bleeds to death. It is a collection filled with many violent episodes, saved by some very funny Burger World episodes and a Cornholio episode in which Beavis is deported. There are forty-two episodes, which vary in length, including two Christmas specials. The second disc of episodes ends with Beavis and Butt-Head Are Dead.
The third disc is a collection of music videos which were originally intermixed with the cartoons, and a collection of special features. The music videos worked better intermixed with the cartoons, and vice-versa, but at least some of the music videos are included in the collection. Many of these videos are awful, but the commentary by Beavis and Butt-Head is that much better because of it. There are fifteen music videos.
The special features continue Taint of Greatness: The Journey of Beavis and Butt-Head featurette, with part 3. This is mostly just clips mixed with Mike Judge talking about himself and the show. There is also the original Frog Baseball cartoon, which is more disturbing than funny. Fans will also notice how different the voice of Beavis was in the original cartoon. The last bunch of special features are different appearances that Beavis and Butt-Head made, including an interview and a number of promos.
