Girls Next Door: Season 1 DVD Review:

Regardless of what you may be hoping to get out of this Playboy mansion reality show, even if it is simply entertainment, there is a good chance you will be disappointed. If curiosity is your reason for watching, disappointment will come when details about the relationship with Hugh Hefner and his three girlfriends are never given. With the footage shown it almost appears as if they are three sisters living with their rich father who doesn’t mind skimpy clothes. If nude women is your reason for watching, the show is uncensored on DVD and will satisfy this much more than it would on television. There are also a number of deleted scenes, but a surprising amount of the show is rather tame. The girls try extremely hard to appear as much more than just a blond bimbo, but some of the most entertaining moments of the show come when they have a Jessica Simpson moment. If these moments were more predominant in the show, it could at least be a guilty pleasure, but much of the show seems filtered, so that we are only seeing what Hugh wants us to see.

Hugh has three personal live-in girlfriends, each with their own room and a nine pm curfew. These three girls are Holly, Bridget and Kendra. Holly is the oldest girlfriend, and very territorial about her place next to Hugh. Bridget is a bubbly girlfriend with a bunch of pets and a visiting sister. Kendra isn’t the smartest, but she is the quickest to get naked and play any sport. Their personalities are nothing alike, but each looks fairly similar. Season one follows the girls as they go about preparations for parties and things. This means many scenes with them picking outfits and doing their hair. Bridget’s sister even gets a make-over for one of the parties.

The high point of the DVD will be the fact that it is completely uncensored, even though there are more scenes with the girls talking very excitedly about one thing or another than there are scenes with them naked. Of course, there is the occasional dress malfunction. This also means that the language is uncensored which can help for the humor.

Season one is fifteen episodes which are fit on three discs, along with an assortment of special features. There is a never-before-seen pilot Hef’s World, which has a lot of the same footage as the pilot for The Girls Next Door. There are also some deleted scenes, which have a great deal more footage when it comes to the erotic parts of the show, as well as more ridiculous conversations. There are also over 200 photos in a photo gallery and personality tests for the girlfriends and commentary by them on every episode.
