Larry The Cable Guy: Health Inspector (2006) Synopsis:
Sporting a cut-off flannel shirt and armed with a truckload of one-liners, Larry the Cable Guy is America's reigning king of blue-collar comedy. Now, after two #1 comedy tours (out-selling both Jerry Seinfeld and Chris Rock), two hit concert films, a best-selling book, two chart-topping comedy albums and a multi-platinum DVD special, Larry makes his feature film debut in the outrageous Lionsgate comedy, "Larry the Cable Guy: Health Inspector". Irreverent as ever, Larry plays a big city health inspector who's happy with his usual beat of greasy spoon diners and low-rent ethnic restaurants. But his easygoing life is turned upside-down when he's saddled with a straight-arrow rookie partner (Iris Bahr) and assigned the biggest case of his career: investigating an outbreak of mysterious food poisonings at the city's swankiest restaurants. Infuriating restaurateurs with his bad manners, Larry still manages to charm a sweet, shy waitress (Megyn Price) into a budding romance. But when his unorthodox methods cost him his job, Larry has to go undercover to bring the conspirators to justice and 'Git-R-Done!'
Larry The Cable Guy: Health Inspector (2006) DVD Review:
The obvious first observation any intelligent human being is going to have about this bathroom-humor kitchen comedy is that the title makes little sense. I understand that Larry the Cable Guy is his full title, but he is a health inspector in this film and it seems strange to have a title claiming two careers on one man. Much of the film is like the title; it is more humorous for its stupidity than anything intentional. The plot along with many of the twists, make absolutely no sense, but the jokes are funny and some of this can be excused for sake of entertainment.
Larry the Cable Guy might not be a cable guy, but he is a health inspector of shady little restaurants. He’s a redneck, but he is also extremely good at what he does, and when he is put on a case involving one of the nicest restaurants in the city he is given the chance to show how good he really is. At the same time he is given a new partner (Iris Bahr) and finds himself a new girlfriend. There is a cooing competition that looms ahead, so when customers start becoming sick at nice restaurants it looks like someone is sabotaging the restaurants. It’s up to Larry to save the day and solve the mystery, which may involve a shady mayor (Joe Pantoliano).
There are two kinds of humor in Larry the Cable Guy; the clever one-liners and fast talking jokes, and the bathroom humor. The one-liners are actually pretty funny most of the time, and it is better than the fart jokes and diarrhea incidents in the film. It’s a great cast, so although the film is often less than great, the entire thing isn’t a waste. Tony Hale from Arrested Development has a great role as a handicapped co-worker of Larry, which leaves plenty of room for jokes.
The DVD has both widescreen and full screen versions of the film. The main menu is extensive and far too complicated. Less is more, especially if the less looks better than this menu. The special features include a behind the scenes look at the film and previews.
