In addition to Mr. Chappelle performing all-new material, the stellar roster of artists includes Kanye West, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Common, Dead Prez, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, the Roots, Cody ChesnuTT, Big Daddy Kane, and -- reunited for their first performance in over seven years -- the Fugees.

Dave Chappelle's Block Party (2006) DVD Review:

Dave Chappell has a dream. He wants to organise a block party in Brooklyn that will feature all his favourite Hip-Hop artists. That rooster would include Kanye West, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Common, Dead Prez, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, the Roots, Cody ChesnuTT, Big Daddy Kane and John Legend. He also wished that he could invite people from a small town in Ohio and members of the Invincible Marching Marauders band from Central State University. Can his dream come true?

When Dave Chappell sets his mind to something he gets something done and for lovers of Hip Hop you will want to shake his hand.

Organising a free music event is always going to be hard but when you planning it in the middle of Brooklyn it becomes a whole different matter. Add to this getting together some of the most renowned and up and coming names in hip-hop, as well as organising people from his home town and Central State University and you have a mammoth task. Anyone who has seen Dave Chappell will know that he will have fun on the way.

Successfully mixing documentary and concert footage is a difficult task but Dave Chappell and director Michel Gondry manage it perfectly. From finding the venue to booking the acts, as well as Dave handing out ‘Golden Tickets’ to people from Ohio, the star and director successfully mixes comedy, information and music to provide Hip-Hop and comedy fans with as much entertainment as they can gather.

It is the musical acts that everyone who loves Hip-Hop will want to see. Kanye West, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Common, Dead Prez, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, the Roots, Cody ChesnuTT, Big Daddy Kane and John Legend are joined by a very special guest band that will have Hip-Hop fans jumping for joy.

‘Dave Chappell’s Block Party’ is just a concert movie mixed with a making of documentary. Anyone expecting the zaniness of the ‘Chappell Show’ might be disappointed however but there are still comedic gems from the performer that they will enjoy. If you love hip-hop you will adore this movie though, especially when the final acts appears.
