Brothers Of The Head (2006) Synopsis:

From the directors of "Lost in La Mancha" comes this feverish, mind-bending odyssey of conjoined twins Tom and Barry Howe, who were plucked from obscurity by a 1970's music promoter and groomed into a boy band. Grappling with impossible love, artistic rivalry and a dark inner life, the twins embrace their freakishness adn spit it back in the form of searing punk rock.

Brothers Of The Head (2006) DVD Review:

Documentaries are gaining popularity these days and if a good subject can be found it is almost a guaranteed success. Documentaries don’t ask for a strong style or great script, but simply a fascinating subject matter. Often documentaries have been accused of staging scenes, even as early as Nanook of North, which had the Eskimo subject matter carry spears instead of rifles to give a primitive feeling for the film. The next obvious step would be to falsify the entire documentation, and even the subject matter itself. Brothers of the Head takes this step, creating interest characters by way of conjoined twins as rock stars.

Brothers of the Head is filled with plenty of strange footage which would be very fitting in an actual documentary, but since this is an obvious faux documentary this footage seems a little bit contrived in it’s attempt to be artistic and immediate. I call the film a faux documentary because mockumentary doesn’t seem an appropriate term for a film that doesn’t seem intent on mocking anything. The music scene that the brothers are meant to have created is treated with delicacy and the issue of their deformed nature is a rather stark comment on celebrity more than mocking. In other words, it is almost too close to what the reality could have been to be found humorous, and the tone of the film remains dark and moody. There are many moments where the fact that they have a camera on them at all times is more of a disability than the fact that they are conjoined.

The brothers are taken from their family in order to learn show business. They are trained to perform and when their music actually begins to find a following they are forced to deal with the celebrity. They begin a band called The Bang Bang, which starts as a pop band and turns into a punk phenomenon. The brothers have very extreme personalities, with Tom being the quiet and hard working guitar player and Barry being the wild and rude singer. This is too perfect for the film and it is even more cliché when a woman comes between the brothers, but the way it is presented is entertaining even as it is unbelievable.

The bonus material jumps straight to deleted and extended scenes. There are fourteen on these deleted and extended scenes over a number of menus. Among the deleted scenes are some additional faux interviews and some additional music scenes as well.
