Unknown (2006) Synopsis:

The plotline is being kept quiet, but it was revealed that it is along the same lines as Memento in that participants and viewers don't know until the end who the bad guy is.

Unknown (2006) DVD Review:

However unrealistic the plot may be, the construction of it is quite effective and engaging, and it doesn’t hurt to have such an impressive cast. Essentially starring five men trapped in a building together, Unknown stars Greg Kinnear (Little Miss Sunshine, Nurse Betty), Jim Caviezel (The Passion of the Christ), Joe Pantoliano (The Sopranos), Barry Pepper (Saving Private Ryan, Flags of Our Fathers) and Jeremy Sisto (Six Feet Under).

Five men wake up in an empty warehouse complete with high security. Some of the men are tied up and others are injured and none of them remember who they are or how they got there. The warehouse has bars on all of the windows and a high security door which will only open with a code none of them remember. By looking for clues within the walls of the warehouse they are able to figure out that two of them are innocent men who have been kidnapped while the others are criminals. None of them remember because of a gas which was released which causes short term memory loss.

Because the men don’t know if they are a kidnapper or one of the innocent men kidnapped they are stuck in a deadlock situation. Waiting for the other kidnapper to return could mean their death if they happen to be the kidnapped, so they all have a reason to try and escape. Each is only interested in their own self preservation by betting on the safe side and assuming they will be killed when the kidnapper returns. They can’t trust each other, in case they are on opposite sides, but they also can’t kill each other for fear that they are on the same side. It’s a real life game of Clue as they search the run-down warehouse for any hints that might help them piece together what happened. Slowly the layers are revealed and some facts are remembered, but as is expected with these memory loss films, nothing is as it seems.

The DVD contains deleted scenes, but most of them are useless and don’t add any depth or understanding to the unraveling of the clues. There are also some extended scenes, which are even more frustrating. Where is the commentary track?
