Suicide Killers (2006) Synopsis:

This feature documentary takes the audience on a disturbing journey deep into a culture that few can comprehend -- that of suicide bombers. Filmmaker Pierre Rehov examines the phenomenon of suicide bombers through rare and never-before-seen interviews with actual family members of terrorists, the prisoners whose bombing attempts have been thwarted, and exclusive footage of a terror bomber as he prepares for mission! This film provides a message of urgency for increasing our understanding of the psychopathological dynamics of these terrorist bombers. We finally gain insight to how these human bombs "tick".

Suicide Killers (2006) DVD Review:

What is amazing about this documentary is the truly remarkable interviews within it. The film is about the Palestinian suicide bombers and features interviews with family members and the terrorists themselves, mostly from within jail. There is nothing extremely pleasant about listening to these terrorists explain their rationale for killing being their ticket to heaven, but this is a remarkably important film.

The bluntness of the material is what makes the film so shocking, even down to the small details in how much hatred is spread through every day ordinary activities. There is even a clip from an anti-Semitic daily television series, a soap opera of sorts that is on Al Manar television in Lebanon and devotes scenes to showing all Jewish people as unworthy of life and as horrifically violent and greedy men who are even willing to kill a Christian boy for his blood. Using shocking media like this to inspire hatred is among the softer reactions, whereas actual violence is used in many occasions. Even revolting against terrorism is considered be an “act of collaboration” and punishable by execution, keeping even those who don’t agree with these extreme measures from speaking out. This only leads more of the world to believe that

What makes these suicide attacks to horrific is that they are not attempting to fight any war in the traditional sense. The point is for a message to be made and fear to be used against citizens rather than soldiers. Because fear is the main objective it is fitting that many of the attacks are now focused on public transportation, making even mundane daily activities seem frightening and often extremely dangerous. Suicide Killers has several victims and survivors of these attacks, unwilling and unsuspecting citizens whose lives were changed because of what bus that they just happened to get on. These are not political figures or soldiers, which is what makes these attacks so frightening. This has also led to a forced change in lifestyle with metal detectors and searches in even the most ordinary daily activities. Even entering a fast food restaurant may mean having your bags checked, but this is certainly better than the alternative.

Suicide Killers is a difficult film as well as an important one. Although I would like to think that every person reserves the right to believe what they feel is correct without any punishment, there are contradictions because of what these killers believe. They honestly believe that killing those who don’t believe as they do will help them to get to heaven where they will be surrounded by all of the best treasures including hoards of virgins, because they killed for their God. It is much more difficult to be understanding and sympathetic once seeing how truly celebrated the death of innocent people is to them. What makes Suicide Killers so brutally important is the way it is not filled with unnecessary voiceover leading the viewer in any direction. The words are coming straight from the killer’s mouths, explaining their true feelings for all to know, without shame or humiliation in the slightest. They speak of their joy in each murderous explosion and act of terrorism, even admitting they were extremely happy on September 11, 2001.

The bonus features include various bonus footage, either behind-the-scenes, interviews, or deleted footage. It is all just compiled together and thrown into the bonus features menu. There is also a trailer for the film.
