The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) Synopsis:
Matt Damon returns as the trained assassin Jason Bourne for the latest showdown in "The Bourne Ultimatum." In the follow-up to 2002's "The Bourne Identity" and 2004's "The Bourne Supremacy"--the smash hits that have earned over $500 million at the global box office--acclaimed director Paul Greengrass ("United 93," "The Bourne Supremacy") joins returning cast members Julia Stiles and Joan Allen and new additions David Strathairn and Paddy Considine. All he wanted was to disappear. Instead, Jason Bourne is now hunted by the people who made him what he is. Having lost his memory and the one person he loved, he is undeterred by the barrage of bullets and a new generation of highly-trained killers. Bourne has only one objective: to go back to the beginning and find out who he was. Now, in the new chapter of this espionage series, Bourne will hunt down his past in order to find a future. He must travel from Moscow, Paris, Madrid and London to Tangier and New York City as he continues his quest to find the real Jason Bourne--all the while trying to outmaneuver the scores of cops, federal officers and Interpol agents with him in their crosshairs.
The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) DVD Review:
The Bourne Ultimatum picks up immediately after Jason Bourne apologizes to Neski’s daughter in Moscow, the end point of The Bourne Supremacy. Jason, still injured from the police chase in the previous movie, is still on the run when he is cornered by Moscow police. He lets the officers live, stating that his fight is not with them, before disappearing. Jason’s name is mentioned on the CIA radar again six weeks later after he approaches a journalist who has been reporting on the Jason Bourne story in connection with a covert operation called “Blackbriar.” Bourne arranges a meeting with the journalist in an attempt to uncover who he truly is, but things get complicated as the CIA intervenes, leading to the reporter’s death.
Bourne continues to follow the leads given to him by the reporter, but when he aggravates Blackbriar leader Noah Vosen, a termination order is placed on Bourne’s head. Once again being hunted by the CIA, Jason heads to New York where they replay the ending of The Bourne Supremacy, as Jason watches Pamela Landy through the scope of a sniper rifle. During this conversation, Landy reveals that Jason’s real name is David Webb, and that he was born on 4/15/71. The birth date ends up being the address of the Treadstone/Blackbriar training facility. Now Jason must bring down the entire project if he wants to escape.
Paul Greengrass once again helms the director seat in the third and alleged final film in the Bourne series based upon the successful novels by Robert Ludlum. Greengrass formerly directed The Bourne Supremacy. The Bourne Ultimatum screams everything that we have come to expect from the Bourne series, including shaky camera, intense car chases set in beautiful locations, and of course the cool, calculating amnesiac secret agent Jason Bourne. Once again, the plot builds up into a frenetically paced crescendo comprising the third act. It all breaks loose (?) for Jason as he must evade the army of trained killers pursuing him and complete his objectives. This film does not disappoint as Jason careens through New York City in a stolen police car before confronting his demons in the training facility. The Bourne Ultimatum proves to be a satisfactory final chapter in the trilogy.
The DVD is available in both Widescreen and Fullscreen and in a special two DVD box set, as well as HD DVD. There is also a trilogy box set featuring all three Bourne films. The DVD is presented in 5.1 surround sound, and includes both French and English 5.1 options.
The special features on the standard definition DVDs include Deleted Scenes, Man on the Move: Jason Bourne which features mini featurettes on the various locations that The Bourne Ultimatum was filmed, including Berlin, London, Paris and Tangier among others. Roof top pursuit that shows how the filmmakers made the fast paced chase sequence set atop the roofs of several Tangier buildings as well as the amazing shot where the camera and operator leap from the building as they chase Bourne. Driving School where Matt Damon proves his ability to masterfully do stunt driving, and of course a feature commentary with director Paul Greengrass.
