Girls Next Door: Season 3 DVD Review:

This season of Girls Next Door has boobies galore! Season three is the kind of mindless, yet enjoyable, reality TV that fills the airwaves between reruns of old sitcoms and those scripted dramas. If you’re a channel surfer, chances are you have happened upon this show more than a handful of times. The show follows Playboy Bunnies Holly, Bridget and Kendra around the lavish Playboy Mansion and documents their extravagant lifestyle living under Hugh Hefner’s roof.

They aren’t all blonde-headed bimbos as one might think: Holly successfully designs the playboy calendar and several photo shoots as well as planning her enormous Marie Antoinette-themed birthday bash, 23 year old Kendra is an avid sports fan and once rapped for the Celebrity Rap Superstar competition, and Bridget has a BA and masters degree in Communications with an emphasis in public relations. All three girls are supportive, loving and kind to each other, something you usually don’t easily find in a friendship.

And yet, the level of excess these women live by is astonishing, and could bring any woman to jealous tears. Christmas is a working holiday, because the girls must spend several hours opening presents that were sent to them from many corporations and businesses. Three-carat diamond stud earrings, closets full of new lingerie and new cars must be so difficult to get for free all the time. To add to it all, Heff lets the ladies order snow to fill the front yard with small slopes to sleigh down in 70-degree weather. Say it with me now: Ridiculous.

The box set includes three discs with 14 episodes, highly entertaining and superficial audio commentary from the girls and deleted scenes for every episode. A full hour behind-the-scenes featurette “Bedtime Stories: the Best of the Girls Next Door” is entertaining, but hardly worth the watch. Since there is not much substance to this show, you either have to be a man salivating over naked bodies or a woman who wants to feel better about her intelligence or natural beauty, because these women are physically as Barbie-dolled up as the plastic model itself.

The biggest difference between the TV show and the box set is the lack of censorship regarding nudity and profanity. No more blurred out boobies, no more smudged crotch shots and no more bleeps when an f-bomb is dropped. This is the show in its original format, and the way that teenage boys everywhere wish it could always be.
