A Shot At Love With Tila Tequila: The Complete First Season Uncensored DVD Review:

Just what we need, another reality show based on “The Bachelor”. VH1 has brought us Flavor Flav, New York, and Bret Michaels. Now their sister-network, MTV, is bringing insomniac audiences: A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila. The twist to this show isn’t the celebrity (if you can call Tila Tequila a celebrity), but the competitors. Sixteen guys AND sixteen girls compete for the heart of the bi-sexual MySpace personality.

Most of the drama of the show doesn’t revolve around Tila, but around the battle of the sexes. The genders seem to care more about whether Tila will choose a guy or a girl at the end, instead of caring about Tila. In fact, numerous contestants start hooking up with each other, rather then focusing on Tila. The sexuality of several of the cast members becomes questionable after the cast is required to sleep together in one bed.

The show has an entire cast of characters besides Tila. There is Ashley, the southern gentleman who turns redneck when he becomes angry. After his fight with Bobby in Episode 4, “I Always Get What I Want”, Tila should really file for a restraining order. The ever-dueling Brandi and Vanessa, whose fight spanned two episodes, embarrass themselves more than anyone on the show after throwing the most disturbing hissy-fits seen from grown women. Domenico, the class clown from Italy, even got his own low-rated spin-off show, “That’s Amore”. In fact, with so many different personalities gathered in one bed, Tila Tequila’s screen time is significantly limited for the star of her own show.

The DVD contains all ten episodes, along with the reunion show: “The Last Round”. The clip show episode “One Shot Too Many” does not appear on the uncensored DVD. The special features merely include extended scenes and a few deleted scenes titled; “Girls Cat Walk”, “Guys in Heels”, “Foam Party”, “Car Wash”, “Ashley vs. Marcus Poolside”, “Brandi and Rebecca Make Out”, “Brandi vs. Vanessa”, and “Brandi vs. Vanessa Elimination”, “Spin the Bottle”, “Waxing”, “Strip Club” “Brandi and Vanessa Shower”, “Ashley vs. Bobby”, and “Ashley vs. Marcus”. I list them all together, because a majority of the deleted scenes are misplaced and belong in the extended scene section. What you do pick up from the special features is how boring the show actually is. Without music and MTV style editing, even the cast begins to appear bored.

Do you remember when MTV used to show music videos? Yeah, I barely do either. And with Season 2 of A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila premiering April 22nd, I don’t think MTV will stand for Music Television again any time soon.
