Invisible Target Synopsis:

Invisible Target Review:

Even with all of the expected plot devices and twists, a good action film is still fantastic, because it is more about the choreography of the fights that is important. If these can be further enhanced by the motivation of revenge, double-crosses, under-cover agents, moles, so be it. Invisible Target pulls all punches, unleashing a number of fantastic fighting sequences as well as some impressive gun-play fights, and every variation of the two. There are countless plates of glass in smashing distance, characters fall from buildings, hit cars, smash into buses, and even swallow bullets. Although the plot isn’t as strong as similar films, most recently being Flash Point, or the South Korean film, City of Violence, but Invisible Target has enough energy to gloss over the weaker points in the script.

The male camaraderie seemed to be the driving force in these other films, usually with partners in fighting crime, so Invisible Target ups the anti with three cops on the same side against a menacing series of odds. Among the three are Nicholas Tse, a renegade cop determined for revenge against a gang that killed his fiancé during a robbery years earlier. Shawn Yue (Infernal Affairs) plays a veteran detective who is equally determined to take down the elusive gang, and an ambitious young police officer (played by Jackie Chan’s son, Jaycee Chan), whose brother is undercover in the ruthless gang of robbers.

The villains are also increased in order to compete against the increase of admirable protagonists. There is the token scene in which the three cops take on an entire restaurant full of criminals, but the individual killers they are up against are far more menacing. Although there is a great effort expended to ensure we see the humanity of one of the gang members, another is such a ruthless killing machine that none of the men alone are a match for his abilities. The fact that this gang also makes use of several explosions, containing an arsenal of weapons, there is an awesome if not unfeasible conclusion taking pace in the police headquarters.

The Two-Disc Ultimate Edition contains three featurettes, seven interviews, a making-of documentary and a commentary track. The commentary features three of the actors, Jaycee Chan, Shawn Yue, Andy On, and Hong Kong Cinema expert and regular commentator Bey Logan. Disc one also has the making-of featurette and a trailer gallery. The interviews, which include director Benny Chan (Robin B-Hood, New Police Story) and six of the actors, along with the features are on the second disc.
