Wire In The Blood Review:

Wire in the Blood is a dramatic crime investigation series aired by Britain’s ITV (Independent Television), a public network created to compete with the monolithic BBC Network.

Wire in the Blood, based upon characters created by Scottish crime novelist Val McDermid. The primary character of the series is a clinical psychologist named Dr. Anthony “Tony” Valentine Hill, played by actor Robson Green. Dr. Tony Hill is an eccentric criminal profiler who specializes in the minds of serial killers. He enjoys playing video games and suffers from sexual dysfunction.

The name of the series gets its name from the second novel that features Dr. Tony Hill as its protagonist. Prior to that, he appeared in the novel, The Mermaids Singing (1995), and has been featured in three more novels since “The Wire in the Blood” (1997), including “The Last Temptation” (2002), “The Torment of Others” (2004), and “Beneath the Bleeding” (2007). In the series Dr. Tony Hill frequently works with an attractive yet tough as nails partner named Carol Jordan. Val McDermid wrote the first two episodes of the series but has let the show be taken over by a writing team to write the rest of the series.

The character of Carol Jordan was portrayed by Hermione Norris for the first three seasons of the series but was replaced for the fourth season by Detective Inspector Alex Fielding (Simone Lahbib).

The four episodes that make up season five include The Colour of Amber. In this episode, a woman sees a young girl being dragged off kicking and screaming while being kidnapped by a man. With only a few hours to spare Dr. Tony Hill begins to review the security footage of the abduction and concludes that the girl may know her assailant.

In Nocebo, Dr. Hill investigates the murder of two children but faces the much worse possibility that it could also be two killers.

The Names of Angels is a perplexing case when two women are found raped and strangled. The odd thing is that they are wearing the clothes from a case from years earlier. Now Dr. Hill needs to figure out what the killer is telling him in order to solve the case.

Lastly, in Anything You Can Do, an elderly woman is murdered and a security guard is the suspect. That is until the killing spree escalates and it becomes more obvious that multiple killers may be behind it.

Wire in the Blood is a dark and haunting television series that focuses primarily on the habits and psyche of serial killers, Dr. Hill’s specialty. The show is, however, rather intense and not for the faint of heart.

The DVD box set of Wire in the Blood features all four near feature length episodes of the fifth season. Each episode is presented in anamorphic widescreen and has a Dolby Digital soundtrack. The DVD box set special features include interviews with Robson Green, Simone Lahbib and other members of the cast. It also includes interviews with creator and author Val McDermid and members of the production staff.
