The Closer Season 3 DVD Review:
The Closer is police crime drama on the TNT (Turner Network Television) network. The Closer is follows the life of Deputy Police Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick, Born on the 4th of July, Something to Talk About), brought in from Atlanta to Los Angeles to head up the Priority Murder Squad. This highly trained collection of officers specializes in handling high-profile murder cases.
Brenda Leigh Johnson tends to be a bit off putting and is often a little scatter brained and tends to step on people’s toes. Despite her personality quirks, Johnson is a world-class interrogator with a proven track record of success. When it comes to getting a confession out of a suspect, she is an absolute closer.
Season 3 of The Closer finds Deputy Police Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson and her team of detectives from the Priority Murder Squad investigating several high profile cases. Included in the list of cases is solved during season 3 is the story a man who has been leading a double life with two families, a retirement home senior who confesses to killing several fellow residents, rival gangsters killing each other and a missing young girl.
Kyra Sedgwick is amazing in her portrayal of the tough as nails interrogator Brenda Leigh Johnson. It is without wonder why she has received so many accolades for her performance including the 2006 Golden Globe Award for Best Performance by an actress in a television series, as well as two Satellite Awards and a Gracie Allen Award. Sedgwick has also received nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Award and she has been nominated every year that the show has been on the air both Primetime Emmy Awards for outstanding lead actress in a drama series and for the Golden Globe Awards.
The Closer has the unique distinction of being original programming in what is usually a summer of reruns. The series has always premiered in the summertime and its season finale occurs in the early fall. This does not mean that the show is in any way of a lesser quality than the more traditional fall premiering television programs.
In a world overrun with police dramas like CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and Law and Order, Bones, Medium, and all of their various spin-offs, The Closer is a breath of fresh air. Kyra Sedgwick leads an amazing cast through some of the best writing and well-conceived plotlines on television today. The Closer’s summer scheduling makes the series one of if not the only show worth watching all summer long. Sedgwick will work her way into your heart just like Brenda Leigh Johnson works her way into the lies and deceit of the suspects on the show.
The Closer Season 3 includes all 15 hour-long episodes on 4 DVD discs, presented in anamorphic widescreen format, similar to how the series is aired. The DVD box set includes special features Police Files: Unaired Scenes, featurette The Art of Interrogation and a gag reel.
