Tha Alkaholiks: Live From Rehab Review:

Tha Alkaholiks: Live From Rehab might be enjoyable for their fans who have free time on their hands, but outside of their niche audience the DVD has no entertainment value. The LA concert, along with the special features, seems to have been shot by the band members themselves, and their friends, as a search for some source of legitimacy.

The concert features performances by Tha Alkaholics, Xzibit (of Pimp My Ride fame), King T. Defari, Styliztik Jones, Heltah Skeltah, and numerous other rapper friends from “Likwit”. There is also not much of a difference between any of the acts. They all dress the same, in black shirts and jeans, making it nearly impossible to tell members apart.

The ninety-minute concert is uncensored, not that you can understand what the rappers are saying anyway. As for the quality of the DVD, the most basic equipment is used to shoot the concert. I guess they could only afford four cameras, because the exact same four to five angles are used throughout the entire show.

If the look of the concert resembles a reality show, the interviews appear to be student film quality. Have they even heard of tripods as the camera sways from side to side? Some of the interviews are shot on the street, with the sounds of traffic, airplanes, and passersby taking away from the speaker. Not that they have much to say. Once you get past the umms, likes, and numerous fillers (when in doubt, just say damn) nothing they have to say seems to be of importance unless you know who they are. And to continue with the trend of boredom there is also a photo gallery. There was an opportunity here to raise the level of this DVD by giving existing rap fans and possible new fans some inside info and interesting backstage views. Unfortunately, this didn’t happen.

If you have heard of Tha Alkaholiks, buy with caution. You’d be better off listening to their CDs than having to deal with the poor visual experience the show provides.
