Shaggy And Scooby Doo Get A Clue! Volume 2 DVD Review:
Shaggy and Scooby Doo Get A Clue! Volume 2 is the second of three DVD releases that will make up the entire 1st season of the WB Kids cartoon series. Based upon the enormously successful Scooby Doo series that followed a group of four friends, Fred, Wilma, Daphne and Shaggy and their cowardly Great-Dane, Scooby Doo. Together, in their trusty Mystery Machine conversion van, the group traveled the country solving mysteries, generally ones that involve haunted locations. The group would always figure out a way to outsmart their would be haunters, only to discover, usually that some trusted figure at the location is behind the hauntings in an attempt to drive away guests, or to make money from some grandiose scheme.
Scooby Doo has become a cultural icon that has spanned over the past 40 years. Children from 1969 to today know who Scooby Doo, Shaggy, Fred, Daphne and Velma as well as the Mystery Machine and the courage inducing Scooby snacks that could get Shaggy and Scooby to do just about anything for them. The Scooby Doo franchise has spawned two movies, a line of cereal, and several different series, including the new Shaggy and Scooby Doo Get A Clue!
The DVD release of volume 2 of Shaggy and Scooby Doo Get A Clue! Features four half hour episodes from season 1 of the cartoon series.
The first episode included on the DVD is titled “Smart House” in which Dr. Phibes, a recurring antagonist introduced early in the first season, plans on releasing an evil computer virus into the nation’s weapon defense systems. Instead, Shaggy and Scooby accidentally release the virus into their own house and soon all of their appliances fall under the virus’ control.
The second episode included is “Lightning Strikes Twice,” in which Dr. Phibes creates a machine run from his space station that begins to cause thunderstorms around the world. Now Shaggy and Scooby must overcome their fear of lightning to stop the villainous doc.
The third episode, “Don’t Feed The Animals,” finds Dr. Phibes having trouble with previous plans, so he decides to destroy the rainforest to steal all of the leaves that could lead to eternal life.
The fourth and final episode included on the DVD is titled “Mystery of the Missing Mystery Solvers,” finds Scooby Doo and Shaggy getting nominated for the Mystery Solvers of the Millenium award. Despite the nomination, the other mystery solvers laugh at them, until they begin to disappear whenever lightning strikes. Now it is up to the less than dynamic duo to save the day, eventually finding the Dr. Phibes is behind it all.
Unlike the original run of Scooby Doo, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo Get a Clue! is drawn significantly more crudely than the original run and unlike the original series whose villains changed each episode, Dr. Phibes tends to be the villain in every episode of this new series. Shaggy and Scooby Doo Get A Clue! is certainly intended for a much younger audience and fans of the original series may find that this version just does not compare.
Shaggy and Scooby Doo Get A Clue! presents all four episodes in full frame.
