Headline: Cruise is a Lion for a Lamb!

It was previously rumoured that Lions for Lambs would be Tom Cruise's first starring role for his new United Artists label, now today comes the news that the deal has been done.

Cruise will co-star alongside Meryl Streep in the flick that will be directed by Robert Redford, with the script by Matthew Carnahan.

The script will have three interlocking stories, first up, Cruise as a congressman who interacts with a journalist (Streep); Redford as an idealistic professor who attempts to inspire a privileged student in his class; and a third storyline about a pair of American soldiers wounded in enemy territory, one of whom is Redford's former student.

It is thought that filming will take place early next year for a possible 2007 release slot.
