Headline: Spike Lee to helm L.A. Riots!

Spike Lee has signed on to helm L.A. Riots for Universal Pictures.

The script, being written by John Ridley, will be based on the story of the infamous 1992 L.A. riots, which followed the acquittal by a white jury of four police officers who were videotaped beating black motorist Rodney King, caused the death of 55 people, thousands of injuries and close to $1 billion in damage.

Brian Grazer will produce for Imagine Entertainment with plans to film at some point next year.
