Eva Mendes has joined the cast of Frank Millers The Spirit.

She will co-star alongside the already signed on Gabriel Macht, Samuel L. Jackson and Scarlett Johansson.

Mendes will play Sand Saref who is described as the only woman who could break the Spirit's heart. As teenage lovers, the two were torn apart when Sand's father was accidentally killed by the Spirit's uncle.

Filming starts in October this year.
