News reaches us today that agreement has FINALLY been reached to make The Hobbit into a movie, or rather even TWO movies!
MGM have signed up with New Line Cinema to produce the movies that will go into pre production now, film in 2009, for a 2010 release for part 1, and 2011 for part 2.
Now the best bit, Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh are back on board, as they have settled their lawsuit with New Line!
Unfortunately though its only as Executive Producers at this stage. Apparently a director is being sought for the film.
My gut instinct is that Jackson doesn't want to commit to direct until hes finished The Lovely Bones, that hes neck deep in just now, and can't write the script at all due to the WGA strike.
So heres hoping that he finishes Bones and wants to direct this, the strike is over and relations are still good with New Line. I now nearly every movie fan on the planet will be hoping that happens!
