Charlize Theron has signed on to co-star alongside Viggo Mortensen in The Road.

The Road is the latest adaptation of a Cormac McCarthy novel, this on following a man who embarks on a nightmarish road trip after a nuclear explosion in an attempt to transport his son to safety while fending off cannibals.

John Hilcoat will direct from a script by Joe Penhall.
