William Hurt and Marcia Gay Harden are to star in Into the Wild to be written and directed by Sean Penn. Based on Jon Krakauer's non-fiction book, the story centers on Christopher McCandless (Hirsch), who graduated from college in 1992, abandoned his possessions and hitchhiked to Alaska to live in the wilderness and return to nature. He died four months later in an abandoned bus at a remote campsite. Hurt and Harden will play McCandless' parents. Emile Hirsch, Vince Vaughn and Catherine Keener are already on board and Paramount Vantage will distribute.
