Brad Pitt looks to have signed on to star in State of Play.

The Universal Pictures movie is based on the BBC series of the same name. No director is attached yet, but Matthew Carnahan is beavering away on the script.

Pitt will play a journalist and former campaign manager of a fast-rising politician who unravels a murder conspiracy involving his former boss.
