Headline: Amazon to make, not sell film?
27th July 2006

Amazon.com to develop a movie, yes instead of just selling them they have snapped up the movie rights to a book and are working on developing it into a movie. They snapped up the rights to the book by Keith Donahue that follows a 7-year-old snatched by forest creatures that leave a look-alike in his place. The plot then tracks the changeling’s attempts to live with his new family and the original child’s adventures with a pack of wild kids. Director of purchasing at Amazon Laura Porco revealed why "We are always trying to innovate, based on listening to customers and the things they're passionate about," Amazon’s director of merchandising Laura Porco told Variety. "This was a book we passed around to our editorial and merchandising teams. Everybody was excited by Keith's voice and felt this could be a great movie." No talent, no director and no writer is attached yet. Methinks this whiffs of more of an attempt at a PR stunt to drive traffic to amazon/or sell more copies of the book.
