George A. Romero has signed on to write and produce George Romero's Diary of the Dead.

The storyline revolves around a group of film students who encounter real zombies when making a horror movie in the woods.

The movie will be financed by Artfire, with worldwide sales being handled by Voltage Pictures. Which if you hadn't already guessed puts Romero back in the indie production budget range again after he got his hands on a larger budget with last year's so-so Land of the Dead.

Filming is already being planned for October this year in Toronto.
