Scarlett Johansson has signed on to star in Mary Queen of Scots, based on a script written by acclaimed UK TV writer Jimmy McGovern.

The movie will focus on the antagonistic relationship between Queen Mary (Johansson) and Queen Elizabeth I of England, who tried to undermine her rule.

The flick will be produced by Scarlett's mum Melanie for 2929 Entertainment.
