Mischa Barton has signed on to star in Malice in Sunderland.

The movie will be a contemporary take on the Lewis Carroll classic "Alice in Wonderland" that has Alice re-imagined as an American student who is hit by a London taxi and finds herself disoriented in Sunderland, where she has to navigate a macabre underworld of characters.

Simon Fellows will direct based on Jayson Rothwell's script.
