Zombie Strippers (2008) Synopsis:
Worldwide media sensation Jenna Jameson and "Nightmare on Elm Street's" Robert Englund star in "Zombie Strippers." When a secret government agency lets out a deadly chemo virus causing the reanimation of the dead, the first place to get hit is Rhino's, a hot underground strip club. As one of the strippers gets the virus, she turns into a supernatural, flesh-eating zombie stripper, making her the hit of the club. Do the rest of the girls fight the temptation to be like the star stripper, even if there is no turning back? Also featuring Roxy Saint (of the Goth band Roxy Saint and the Blackouts) and Ultimate Fighting Champion Tito Ortiz, "Zombie Strippers" is a sexy, bloody, hilarious good time!
Zombie Strippers (2008) Movie Review:
With the title of Zombie Strippers, one first wonders how a film with this title got a limited theatrical release and not wind up direct to cable or DVD. Zombie Strippers did indeed get a small theatrical run, in which it left quickly and soon will be out on DVD. The film is an attempt at being a successful camp movie, which have been done far better with the likes of Feast, Planet Terror, or Snakes on a Plane.
The film takes place in 2012, where George W. Bush has just been elected for his fourth term and is taking over the world with his vice president Arnold Schwarzenegger. The opening telecast lets the audience know that Bush has made public nudity unlawful. The film then shifts to a group of commandoes, whom are summoned to a secret government test site in Nebraska, to exterminate the result of an experiment gone bad that has turned people into flesh eating zombies. One of the soldiers gets bit, and escapes to an underground strip club ran by the crazed Ian Essko (Robert Englund), and his team of strippers is led by the Kat (Jenna Jameson). The soldier acts Kat and bites her, thus turning her into a zombie. However, by becoming part of the living dead, her stripping skills improve and she begins to make Ian more and more money. This leads to the other strippers following her lead by becoming zombies, then stripping, then feasting in the back room on their clientele. Ian turns his head thinking of all the money he can make. Things change when the club becomes filled with more zombies than humans.
Writer/director Jay Lee attempts to camp this entire movie, but it suffocates itself in its own doing. The satire about George W. Bush and the future is the most amusing part of the film. If you like tons of blood, gore, nudity, stripping, then you will probably really love this film. However, even all these arousing elements become boorish, as the film tries more and more to wink at you until you feel like walking out of the theatre. This lousy attempt of a film makes Robert Rodriguez’s zombie full Planet Terror look like Oscar material. The film gets so desperate that continuously makes fun of Hispanic stereotypes with the strip clubs janitor, and even has Kat shooting pool balls out of her private part at a rival stripper.
Robert Englund, a.k.a Freddy Krueger, is so over the top in his role as Ian, and he just continues to get louder and louder as the film goes on. Porn star Jenna Jameson shows all of her body parts, and is also not the best actress as the stripper turned zombie Kat. In fact, Jameson’s real-life boyfriend, UFC’s Tito Ortiz makes an appearance as a bouncer for the strip club.
Zombie Strippers had its intentions of being a funny, horror camp film, but ultimately it comes across as too much and way too stupid. Though it is suppose to be cheesy and stupid, the film never becomes entertaining. Some may love this one, but not this reviewer.
